The Blue Lagoon
This unique spa features a huge outdoor lagoon filled with geothermal hot water. The water's active ingredients; natural mineral salts, white silica and blue-green algae, have become internationally known for providing the visitor with an unforgettable bathing experience.
Although the lagoon may look like something born from Iceland’s otherworldly landscape, it is actually man made.
Set amidst a dramatic field of black basalt lava the powder-blue mineral rich waters are the run-off from a nearby geothermal project with temperatures in this stunning lagoon averaging a relaxing 35-40°C.
In addition to bathing in the lagoon, visitors have access to a sauna with a view of the lagoon, a steam bath with white walls that resemble silica mud and another cozy steam bath carved into a lava cave. There is also a waterfall providing the most wonderful energizing massage.
When in the lagoon you have access to a bar, literally placed in the water and you can very conveniently use your locker key to purchase drinks, settling the bill on the way out. The Blue Lagoon also has a café for those feeling peckish after their dip and a fantastic restaurant if you would rather dine in style in these unique surroundings!
Naturally, visitors bathing in the lagoon's milky water have easy access to the famous white silica mud, an essential part of the spa experience. Lather some silica on your face, it works miracles for your skin!
A recent addition to the Lagoon is the more luxurious site of the Blue lagoon. The Lava cove spa and the Moss hotel, definitely worth the visit for those who prefer more privacy & more luxury!
